Valentine’s Day: Getting Back to the Heart of Things

Love is in the air every February; red, pink, white, chocolates, greeting cards, flowers.  But has Valetine’s Day merely become a “consumer holiday?”  Here at Elfster, we’re voting to take back the holiday for expressions of love!

So here’s a few low-to-no cost ideas for your beloved.  Plus, you can add them right to your Elster wishlist:

1. Make a Wish List for ONLY your one and only
If you haven’t seen the big banner at the top of the Elfster page, you can surf directly to and start by choosing your one partner.  Don’t limit yourself to “romantic” possibilities — this is a great way for two friends to swap something for fun, or for a mother/daughter exchange, and many other possibilities. Get started with your Individual Wish List by clicking to Start A Wish List, then select the one special person who can view your wish list.

2. IOUs (I owe you’s)
Kids give them to their parents, and vice versa, so why not give one to your partner?  Booklets of IOUs can contain “every day” activities; sure, doing the laundry together isn’t sexy, but it can mean a lot when promised as a joint task.  Be creative — offer to take on a task you may not enjoy but that your significant other would like a break from.  Add this to your Elfster wish list and click “Text” in the “What Are You Wishing For?” box.

3. Pictures! (In a Frame!)
The quote isn’t just trite, it’s actually true: a picture is worth a thousand words.  With all the smart phones with cameras out and about, take one with your best bud and find a place online to print it, or see if a local store will do it.  If you’d like to receive a picture, give them a nudge by adding a frame to your wish list.  Don’t see one you like but know where to find it online?  You can always add it to an Elfster wish list via the “Link” tab at the top.  Then it’s a matter of picking out a snappy frame and presenting your memory together!

Valentine’s Day can be more substance than cost.  How do you celebrate Valentine’s Day?  Let us know on our Facebook at @elfster, Tweet us @Elfster, or find us on Instagram @elfster.
