Even though it’s the beginning of August, everywhere you look, there are signs of Back to School. The stores, the ads, and local campuses all seem to be gearing up. The end of summer can make anyone feel a little bit sad — it seems like we look forward to the slower pace of summer, more time outdoors, and mellow, light-filled days for so long, and then it goes by so quickly! For some people, now may be the time that you are getting ready to send your child away to college for the first time, while others may be looking forward to their child’s first introduction to preschool…and everything in between.
Whatever your situation is, there are ways that Elfster can help. We have recently seen groups setting up their wishlists and exchanges with an eye towards back to school. We wanted to share these ideas with you in the hopes that it may make your Back to School to-do list a little bit easier!
Teacher Wishlists– Help your teachers get the supplies they need. Create a group that includes all members of your classroom. Then, ask your teacher to add any items needed to the wishlist. If someone would like to donate that item to the classroom, they can mark the item as purchased so that the rest of the group is aware. This method allows the teacher to ask for what they need, and allows the group members to get the items without worry of the item being duplicated.
Going Away to College Lists– The first time away from home requires a lot of stuff. Create a wishlist that contains all of the items that are needed for this big step. Then, the student can share the list with all of the people that may be helping fulfill the list- that could include parents, grandparents and any other generous folks they know! Using the list will ensure that correct colors and sizes are purchased, and will help keep track of all that is needed.
Teacher /Staff Exchange– Perhaps there is no other group that feels the sting of the end of summer more than teachers and other school staff. Groups of teachers are hosting fun staff exchanges as a way to get connected and excited about the start of the school year. We have seen several different types of exchanges, with some groups exchanging small gifts over the course of the school year, and others doing a one time gift. Items exchanged range from classroom supplies, teaching aids, coffee and teas for the lounge area and other treats.
