Summertime and the giving is easy

Recently, a group of staff here at Elfster decided to do what we do best – host a gift exchange!  It seemed like a great way to stay in touch with other, get to know one another better, and a fun addition to our July.   We are currently hosting our “Summer Picnic” gift exchange, where we are all going to exchange something that we could use for picnicking or outdoor entertaining.  It has been fun to see what people are wishing for- cornhole, anyone?  It also got us thinking about all the interesting exchanges that the rest of you are involved in this summer.

We have seen lots of people celebrating Christmas in July, and there were a number of exchanges for Eid, the Islamic holiday that will be celebrated on the 8th of August.  Groups of moms are celebrating birthdays, and exchanging cloth diapers.   Here is a quick roundup of some of the current fun exchanges that caught our eye:

I Love Free Software Exchange– this group is planning to send each other $75 worth of software for their exchange

Cosmetics and Perfume Exchange– each member of this group will send their match $75 worth of makeup and perfume

2013 Summer Birthday Exchange– this family hosts a large exchange for their Christmas celebration, and does a swap in the summer to celebrate all of their birthdays together.  Happy Birthday everyone!

Flame Fest T Shirt Exchange– this group is made up of wives of firefighters, who connected on FirefighterWife.com.  They are getting ready to have their first national event, and those attending can also sign up to be in an exchange with another wife to swap t-shirts from their fire companies.

Local Love Exchange– 30 moms from all around the country and going to use the summer exchange as a chance to select something special from their area and send it on to their partner.

Sag Harbor Rooms– this may be the most creative use of Elfster we have seen in a while!  These folks are using the site to determine where they will be sleeping at their shared beach house vacation.  Our guess is no one is interested in being paired up with “Sofa bed-downstairs”?  It is a fair way to assign rooms, so every person can ‘rest’ assured that they had as good a chance as any other for the master bedroom!

Elfster is allowing these users to have fun, and connect with each other over their shared interests.  We would love to hear the story of your family or community and how you are using Elfster,  too.  Summer will not last long, so try and plan your own fun summer exchange! You can reach us via Facebook here, or Tweet us @elfster.
